Horagolla Walauwa break-in: CCD launches special investigation

The Colombo Crime Division (CCD) has launched a special investigation into an incident where an unidentified person had entered the ‘Horagolla Walauwa’ in Nittambuwa, the residence of former President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga, on 20 January, despite Police protection.
In the early hours of 20 January, a man had broken a door of the residence and had entered it while Police Officers attached to the former President’s security detail were on duty.
An official of Kumaratunga’s Office said it is problematic that someone had entered the bungalow, when there was a Police checkpoint at the entrance.
The suspect is believed to have had broken the glass of a door and entered the house.
The former President was staying at her official residence in Colombo that day and three Police Officers were present when the incident took place.
When inquired about this, the OIC of the Nittambuwa Police Station stated that no arrests had been made so far. He said the incident will be investigated further.
Also, Western Province Senior DIG Deshabandu Tennakoon said the CCD was also conducting a special investigation.
