150 lawyers to be recruited as Chief Inspectors
Minister of Justice Mohammed Ali Sabry has requested President Gotabaya Rajapaksa to grant permission to recruit 150 lawyers into the Police force at the trank of Chief Inspector.
This request was made in an attempt to provide a more efficient legal service to the general public of Sri Lanka.
A special discussion was held in this regard today (11) at the Ministry of Justice in the presence of Police Media Spokesman DIG Ajith Rohana, SSP Ruwan Gunasekara, President's Counsel U. R. De Silva, and Senior Assistant Secretary (Legal) of the Ministry of Justice Piyumanthi Peiris.
A release issued by the Ministry of Justice noted that the proposal will be submitted to the Cabinet of Ministers and subsequent to cabinet approval, interviews would be conducted to recruit the lawyers. It also notes that those recruited will have the possibility of being promoted, based on their merits.
The Attorney General's Department has also agreed to provide the necessary training for these 150 lawyers, which will need to be completed prior to their appointments.
