Hidden political agenda behind move: Sumangala Thera slams Cardinal Ranjith

Ulapane Sumangala Thera of the Bhikku Organisations Collective said it is apparent that Archbishop Malcolm Cardinal Ranjith is expressing impulsive ideas with a political face.

The monk made this comment when he participated in a Media briefing organised by the Bhikku Organisations Collective and the ‘Saahasika Viyaruwa Paradawamu’ organisation to reply to a statement made by the Cardinal opposite the Kochchikade church recently in connection with the Easter Sunday attacks.

It is apparent that the Cardinal is working on making a success of future deceptive political strategies.

Anyone has the right to conservatively criticise the political procedure of former President Maithripala Sirisena, the Thera said they respect that.

Ulapane Sumangala Thera also said that His Eminence cannot bring the people of this country on to the roads and what he is doing is making gallery comments to the Buddhists and was expecting publicity and popularity.

The Thera said the Archbishop was not speaking fully for what is right. The Cardinal is holding prayers believing in the almighty and requesting justice from the Government.

Although the Cardinal had said that Maithripala Sirisena made a reference to the former President being  unclothed,  The Thera said it is the other way around.

He said the Bishop’s Council has become an institution for making political statements and issuing various politicians’ political declarations.

The Thera added that a war prevailed in this country for three decades and the people of this country will not forget the dramas engaged in by Bishops such as Rayappu Joseph who allegedly had links with the terrorists.

Sumangala Thera also said when bombs were exploding in this country at that time, the blood of the Cardinal had not become warm and the Cardinal was not compassionate or charitable enough to issue one word or even a message of sympathy.

The monk said the Cardinal is selling the fact that 271 persons died in the Easter Sunday attacks and earning from it, while hoping to launch his desired political campaign.
