Heroin seized in Weligama belongs to ‘Harak Kata’ – Police

The 220 kg of heroin found in Weligama on Sunday (13) is believed to have been sent by drug trafficker and underworld figure Nadun Chinthaka alias ‘Harak Kata,’ who is currently hiding in Dubai, Police Spokesman DIG Ajith Rohana said yesterday. He said the main suspects have been identified and taken into custody.
The Sri Lanka Navy arrested nine suspects and the Police Narcotics Bureau (PNB) have arrested an additional two suspects in connection with the crime. According to DIG Rohana, the 11 suspects were produced before the Matara Magistrate on Monday (14) and detained for a period of seven days at the PNB for further interrogation.
Meanwhile, another two suspects were taken into custody by the PNB for aiding and abetting drug trafficking. The two suspects were produced before the Magistrate yesterday (15) and DIG Rohana added that the investigators are planning to seek a detention order to further interrogate them. Special teams have been deployed by the PNB to further ascertain the evidence and trace other individuals connected to the drug trafficking ring
