Hearings to commence on 6 December

The three-Judge Bench of the Colombo High Court on Monday (25) ordered the case filed against ex-Minister of Finance Ravi Karunanayake and a group of accused, on charges of misappropriating a sum of Rs 15 billion during the CBSL Treasury Bonds auction held on 31 March five years ago, to be taken up for hearing daily, starting from 6 December. 

The order was given by a Bench consisting of Judges Amal Ranaraja, Namal Balalle and Adithya Patabendige. The Bench also ordered the trial to be held over the course of five days in December as well as over five days in January next year. Following this, the Court issued notices to five witnesses to the prosecution to be present at the next hearing to give evidence in the case. 

Among those accused before the HC by the AG besides Karunanayake are primary dealer PTL, ex-Governor of the CBSL Arjuna Mahendran, Arjun Aloysius, Kasun Palisena, Geoffrey Joseph Aloysius, Chitta Ranjan Hulugalle, Muthuraja Surendran, Ajan Gardiya Punchihewa and Saman Kumara.
