Healthy people should self-quarantine – Kulatilaka
By Shiran Ranasinghe
Healthy persons who had contacts with COVID-19 positive patients should be allowed to self-quarantine at their residences without being sent to quarantine centres, Deputy President of the Public Health Inspectors’ Union, S.A.U.T. Kulatilaka told Ceylon Today.
Although the Union had been of this view since March, these suggestions made during discussions with Health authorities had not been implemented, he said.
Since there are practical problems about referring groups to quarantine centres and providing facilities, the PHI’s Union was of the view, from the very beginning that when a patient is found, all those suspected should be allowed to remain in their own homes and quarantine, Kulatilaka said.
He said further that these groups who will be asked to self-quarantine in their own homes should be provided with dry rations and other facilities, and if not healthy people in quarantine centres will also get infected.
