Health is not just about having a body in good condition. It is important to keep our bodies in good health through eating good food and having proper exercise, especially when we spend a lot of time indoors and aren’t very active. Although that is important, we should also be paying attention to having a healthy mind.
Striking a balance in life is crucial and having a healthy body is pointless without a healthy mind. Unfortunately, it’s a lot harder to find out if our mind isn’t doing so well, which is why we need special doctors to help us find out if we have any problems and overcome them.
Making sure our mind is healthy has become especially important with all the things that have changed because of the prevalent COVID-19 pandemic, we’ve had to make a lot of changes in our lives and some of them might not be easy for all of us.
We’ve had to start learning from home using technology. Before that you weren’t even able to go to school or even go outside as you might have done before. Without being able to see your teachers or friends as you used to before, might have been hard for some people. Although schools are back open and we aren’t all stuck at home, things haven’t gone back to being completely normal yet.
With all of us facing issues such as this, it’s more important than ever to take care of ourselves and make sure we have both a healthy body and healthy mind.
This is exactly why the countries across the globe celebrate World Mental Health Day on 10 October each year to spread awareness on the importance of good mental health.
Although it’s not easy to see how good your mental health is, the good news is that there are a bunch of basic things that you can do to have good mental health hygiene. Here are some tips for you to have a healthy mind.
Get regular exercise
As always, the simple things are the most effective. Although you may think that physical exercise is good for your body, it’s also really good for your brain and helps pump more blood to the brain. It also helps promote the development of new nerve cells and increases the connections between brain cells. Exercising also triggers your brain into releasing happy hormones for you to improve mood.
So next time, don’t be afraid to get out and play, or even work out.
Eating unhealthy food can easily affect your brain and your body. Having a well-balanced diet full of nutrients is usually seen with better mental health.
Work that brain
Scientists have found out that the more you use your brain, the better it gets (surprise).
You don’t need to do much, any activity that needs you to think hard such as puzzles and math equations will help your brain stay healthy and give you a sense of accomplishment.
Get some sleep
Sleep is very important to have a healthy mind. Your brain clears out all the bad chemicals that’ve been building up during the day and flushes them out as you sleep. Sleeping the right amount of time can make a huge difference in your mental health.
You might have heard that “All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy” well, it’s also bad for Jack’s health. Which is why both you and Jack need to take some time for yourself and relax. Have some fun with your family and play with your siblings.
Ask for help
Sometimes, it’s really hard to have a healthy mind. If you feel like you need help, don’t feel afraid to talk to your parents about what you’re feeling, no matter how big or small the problem is. Don’t be afraid to ask for help when you need it. Follow these basic tips and more to have a healthy, happy mind and body.
