Colombo High Court Judge Damith Thotawatta yesterday deferred further hearing of the case against Minister of Finance Basil Rajapaksa to 5 November. The Minister has been accused, before the Colombo High Court, of misappropriating finances of the Divi Neguma Fund.

Later Judge Thotawatta issued notices to witnesses to be present in Court on the said date to give testimony in the trial. DSG Dileepa Peiris appearing for the prosecution, on behalf of the Attorney General, told the Court that they will inform whether the case could be further maintained after testimony is recorded from witnesses to the trial.

The AG has indicted Rajapaksa and ex-DG of the Divi Neguma Development Department Kithsiri Ranawaka before the High Court with having misappropriated a sum of Rs 200 million from the said Fund to print five million almanacs containing the photo of ex-President Mahinda Rajapaksa to be distributed among voters in the run up to the Presidential Poll six years ago.
