Hartal to be launched against removal of monument in Jaffna

The Tamil National Alliance (TNA) is planning to launch a hartal tomorrow (11) against the removal of the monument erected at the Jaffna University.
TNA Parliamentarian R. Sanakyan stated that the oppression of minorities by such unjust acts is unacceptable. He also said that he intends to inform the international community about this persecution. He also called on the people of both the Northern and Eastern Provinces to support the Hartal movement.
Meanwhile, the Chairman of the University Grants Commission, Prof. Sampath Amaratunga issued a press release yesterday (09) regarding the removal of the memorial erected at the Jaffna University to commemorate the Tamil people who died in the war.
Accordingly, Amaratunga stated that the University took a timely decision, and that monuments of peace are more important than monuments of war.
