Hajj, the solemn religious celebration of Islam, is being celebrated today (01).
The main objective of the Hajj festival is to celebrate equality and brotherhood by bridging the gaps and differences between people.
In a message released for the Hajj festival, President Gotabaya Rajapaksa said that although the Muslim community could not make the usual pilgrimage to Mecca this time in the face of the world-wide Coronavirus epidemic, we should further enhance coexistence by remembering the greatness of God reflected in that pilgrimage."
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa appealed to Muslims to celebrate Hajj in a simple manner amidst the crisis situation caused by the Coronavirus pandemic. The Prime Minister also pointed out that we should ask Allah to protect Sri Lanka and the people of the world from the crisis by following the Islamic guidelines properly.
