Gratuity payments remain unchanged

The Government of Sri Lanka’s (GoSL’s) gratuity payments remained unchanged at Rs 25.80 billion in 2019 over that of the 2018 figure, though the number of beneficiaries decreased by 6,068 (16.15 per cent) to 31,516, the Pensions Department’s 2019 report submitted to Parliament on 7 October showed.
The number of beneficiaries in 2018 comprised 37,584. Year 2019 gratuity payments included payments to 22,658 public servants, with a figure of Rs 23.83 billion, comprising 92.34 per cent of all gratuity payments made in 2019.
Meanwhile, death gratuity payments in 2019 numbered Rs 641.16 million in respect of 978 deceased public servants.
In related developments, the number of Army personnel who benefited from gratuity payments in 2019 was 207, with gratuity payments of Rs 86.30 million made to these persons.
