Graduate trainee teachers must return for duty
Secretary to the Ministry of Public Services, Provincial Councils and Local Government J.J. Rathnasiri told Ceylon Today that all 18,000 graduates who were recruited to public service and have been absorbed into the Ministry of Education have been informed that they should compulsorily report for work to the schools they are serving in.
When graduate trainees were recruited to the government service, 58,000 were absorbed into public service and 18,000 of them were sent to the Ministry of Education, the Secretary said.
The Ministry of Education is making arrangements to reopen schools in several stages based on health guidelines and vaccination of school teachers and students is underway. The Secretary to the Ministry of Public Services expressed his belief that accordingly, all schools will be reopened based on a plan during the upcoming weeks.
Rathnasiri said that according to this, all trainee graduates who were referred to the Ministry of Education and deployed to schools will have to compulsorily report to their places of work from 21 October. If the Ministry of Education requests for more trainee graduates, Rathnasiri said that his Ministry is prepared oblige.
