The grace period given by the Postal Department to pay traffic fines at Post and Sub Post Offices considering the situation caused by COVID-19, ended on 15 January. Accordingly, fines can be paid to the Post and Sub Post Offices up to 14 days from the day the offence had been committed without any additional fines and up to 28 days with additional fines, Post Master General Ranjith Ariyaratne said.

However, he said that no payment can be made at Post and Sub Post Offices for any fine which has exceeded 28 days since issuance.

However, at the request of the Police Department, opportunity has been given to pay the fines imposed by the Colombo Municipal Traffic Police and the Police Emergency Response Unit until 8 February.
