Govt struggling to curb COVID-19 spread – JVP MC
Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna Colombo Municipal Councillor Hemantha Weerakoon claimed that presently COVID-19 has begun to spread like wildfire within the Colombo Municipality areas and the Government was struggling to curb its spread at the cost of the people’s lives.
He was speaking at a Media briefing yesterday (17) and claimed that presently, the Government was forced to plead with the public to take measures to live amidst the COVID-19 pandemic as they don’t have a programme on the ground to effectively control the spread of the disease.
“At a time when the rulers should formulate programmes to get rid of it, they are now calling on the people to learn to live with the pandemic.
If so, people do not need rulers as they may as well try to live with it as best as they could.
Today, this Government has failed to curb the spread of the second wave of the pandemic and is now facing a severe crisis.
We had already urged this Government to formulate a programme sans political differences to fight the Virus but they have still not heeded to our request,” he said.
