Govt. steps up efforts to reach 70% renewable energy by 2030
The Government has taken a policy decision to satisfy 70% of the total electricity requirement from renewable energy sources by 2030 and to develop total carbonated energy generation by the year 2050.
In par with the national policy framework ‘Vistas of Prosperity and Splendour’, the decision was based on the aim of obtaining the maximum electricity requirement from renewable energy sources by 2030.
In terms of the said policy framework, the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) has to prepare the “Minimum Cost Long Term Generation Plan” subject to Sri Lanka Electricity Act No. 20 of 2009 and its amendments.
The Minister of Power shall issue general policy guidelines to CEB in terms of Section (5) of the said Act for the preparation of the generation plan. Accordingly, the Cabinet of Ministers granted approval to the proposal furnished by the Minister of Power for the issuance of the applicable guidelines. (DM)
