The Government as a policy should strengthen small and medium businesses in its efforts to reinforce the private sector, Minister of Health, Pavithra Wanniarachchi said while inaugurating the Head Office of the All Island Private Pharmacy Owners Association (AIPPOA) in Pelmadulla, Ratnapura.

Wanniarachchi said on  7 July that, “A large number of people who do not attend Government clinics visit pharmacies. At that time, the AIPPOA met with the relevant Presidential Task Force and me to discuss the possibility of delivering pharmaceuticals and medicinal drugs to patients at home at their own expense.”

The AIPPOA has over 4,500 wholesale and retail pharmacies and they supported the Government during the COVID-19 pandemic crisis to ensure that patients and the public did not suffer by an unwanted drug shortage, she added.

She stated that the country should have a private sector.

The Government should provide them with the loan facilities and other services whether they are small or large scale businesses.
