Co-Cabinet Spokesman Udaya Gammanpila says the Opposition has not informed the Government, verbally or in writing, whether any foreign country has agreed to provide assistance to curbCOVID-19 pandemic, following recent discussions foreign Ambassadors had with the Opposition Leader. He urged the Opposition to come forward and give information, in this connection, so that the relevant authorities could be informed and go ahead with the procedure.
When asked why the Government is showing a lack of interest in working towards mitigating COVID-19 crisis with the Opposition support, Gammnapila replied the Opposition is always welcome to support the Government and there is no restriction. “During the Ambassadors’ meetings with the Opposition Leader, the latter has been informed about the foreign aid received by the Government. However, we don’t know whether there are agreements to provide any aid to Sri Lanka through the Opposition,” he said.
