GMOA calls off strike following Rambukwella’s pledge

The Government Medical Officers’ Association (GMOA) called off their strike, which was to be held today (13), following discussions with Health Minister, Keheliya Rambukwella, who pledged to resolve issue surrounding post intern appointments and several other demands without further delay.
GMOA Secretary, Dr. Senal Fernando said yesterday (12) that Minister Rambukwella had requested for two days to resolve the issue on the 'Effective Date' of the Annual Transfers list, which had been published for 2022 while suspending the current 2022 Annual Transfer Vacancies List, which medical officers had been asked to apply for. “The Minister pledged to award internship appointments by 20 October 2021 without delay.
Also,he agreed to fill the vacancies of the Medical Administrative Grade in accordance with the Cabinet Paper submitted by his predecessor. The Minister also pledged to do so without further delay and have an Independent Committee resolve the issues within the Administrative grade category. Dr. Fernando said that Rambukwella had also pledged to issue a Gazette Notice on the procedure which should be followed with regard to the Sri Lanka Medical Council Elections (SLMC).
