Give precedence to fight COVID-19: Ampara DS

Ampara District Secretary D.M.L. Bandaranayake called on all officers to extend their fullest support to the government to help contain the coronavirus.
He was addressing a meeting, at the Ampara District Secretariat Auditorium, called to discuss ways to prevent the spread of COVID-19 in the district.
The meeting was attended by Additional District Secretary V. Jegatheesan, District Disaster Management Centre Asst. Director M.A.C.M. Riyas, Regional Directors of Health Services, Divisional Secretaries, Heads of Pradeshiya Sabhas, Urban Council, Religious heads and Representatives of the Security Forces.
The District Secretary further re-iterated the dangers posed by the coronavirus and said the new outbreak seemed to be worse than the earlier one and called on all those present to lend their fullest support to help contain the epidemic before it gets worse. He also stressed on the importance of wearing masks, maintaining social distance and washing hands regularly.
He said Heads of departments, corporations and other Institutions must provide the necessary facilities for the public to follow the regulations properly. Passengers on buses and other modes of transport should strictly follow health guidelines issued by the Government. Those who ignore or breach these instructions should be severely dealt with, he said.
In the meantime, he advised the Divisional Secretaries to be cautious about strangers arriving in their areas and that they must inform the public to also be vigilant in this regard.
