Gift of ecstasy seized

A haul of ecstasy tablets, worth over Rs 2 million, was seized at the Central Mail Exchange (CME) by the Customs Narcotics Control Unit, yesterday (21).
Customs Director and Acting Spokesman, Lal Weerakoon, confirmed that the consignment of 4,048 ecstasy tablets had been cleverly concealed inside a shoe rack made of fabric, to be sent to a 37-year-old resident of Dehiwala as a gift from France. The suspect was arrested when he visited the CME to collect his package.
Both the suspect and the consignment were handed over to the Police Narcotics Bureau for further investigations.
