General Election 2020: EC issues guidelines for election campaigns
The Election Commission (EC) has issued guidelines to be followed when campaigning for the General Election scheduled to be held on 5 August.
Speaking at a Media briefing today (23), EC Chairman Mahinda Deshapriya has said that Police permission must be sought when using loudspeakers or any other amplifying equipment as well as when organising large scale rallies where loudspeakers are used.
He explained that small scale gatherings, which are typically held at homes and do not require any amplifying equipment, do not need Police permission.
However, the Chairman stated that the Police, District Election Officer, Public Health Inspector of the area, and Medical Health Officers should be informed of any rally or gathering.
He also added that this too is a guideline issued by the Director General of Health Services, Dr. Anil Jasinghe, under quarantine regulations.
