Garlic Scam: Businessman's son arrested
A 25-year-old was arrested by the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) this morning (23) in connection with the recent garlic scam involving Lanka Sathosa.
The suspect was identified as the son of the 55-year-old businessman arrested earlier this month, on suspicion of purchasing the imported garlic that was allegedly sold for a lesser price.
He was taken into custody in Bambalapitiya for assisting the racket, Police Spokesman SSP Nihal Thalduwa stated.
Four officers of Lanka Sathosa were suspended in September after they were found to be involved in selling imported garlic for a lesser price to third-party sellers, unknown to the management of the state-owned institution.
