The Examinations Department released the results of the G.C.E. Ordinary Level Examination for the year 2020 yesterday (23). Students who sat the 2020 G.C.E. Ordinary Level Examination can view their results online at www.donets.lk.
The Examinations Department has decided to hold the results of aesthetic subjects that required practical examinations. According to Commissioner General Sanath B. Pujitha, they have decided to release the results of students who do not require any practical examinations due to the current situation.
He stated that no decision on a date for the practical examinations has yet been made, but that they are doing everything possible to release the remaining results, so that students’ G.C.E. Advanced Level studies are not hampered.
He said they will not release student rankings this year due to the importance of students’ mental health. A total of 622,000 students took the G.C.E. Ordinary Level Examination 2020. The Examinations Department was compelled to announce only part of the results due to the teachers’ strike, which lasted more than 50 days, and their unwillingness to conduct practical tests, putting the future of another generation of students in peril.
When contacted, General Secretary of the Ceylon Teachers’ Union Joseph Stalin said this is the first time in history that the Examinations Department has been forced to issue results while holding one subject. However, the teachers’ stance on withdrawing from academic activities remains unchanged.
