By Buddhika Samaraweera
A future Government, led by Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB), will not hesitate to enforce the law not only against those directly or indirectly involved in the 21 April, 2019 Easter Sunday bombings, but also against officials and other persons for not conducting proper investigations into the matter, SJB MP, Dr. Kavinda Jayawardena said.
He also said the Government's failure to provide a copy of the final report of the Presidential Commission of Inquiry (PCoI) into the Easter Sunday bombings to the Archbishop of Colombo, Malcolm Cardinal Ranjith shows that the Government is not giving due respect to the Cardinal.
Adding that the Attorney General had sent back investigation reports submitted by the Police regarding the Easter Sunday bombings, saying that they had not been properly prepared, Dr. Jayawardena said that proper investigations would be conducted into all those involved in the Easter Sunday bombings under an SJB Government.
He was speaking at an event to commence paintwork at the Shrine of Our Lady of Madhu on 27 February. A private company donated the paint and the project is expected to cost around Rs 10 million. “My late father, Dr. Jayalath Jayawardena played a major role in the development of the Madhu Church. Our aim is to continue that role and provide facilities to people coming from different parts of the country to worship at this church,” Dr. Jayawardena said. SJB MP Hector Appuhamy and others were present on the occasion.
