Fuel price hike: I only announced the decision taken by the govt - Gammanpila
Minister of Energy, Udaya Gammanpila today said the decision to increase fuel prices was taken by the entire Cabinet with the consent of the President and the Prime Minister.
I only announced a decision taken by the entire Government, he added.
Minister Gammanpila said this during a special media briefing today (13) responding to the allegations levelled against him by the General Secretary of the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna, Sagara Kariyawasam.
The latter, issuing a statement, alleged that the Minister in charge of the subject should take full responsibility for the increase in fuel prices.
Minister Gammanpila said that Kariyawasam is not only attacking him but also the President of SLPP Basil Rajapaksa, the President and the Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa in his letter.
Intelligent people of this country will decide whether it is Gammanpila or Sagara Kariyawasam that should resign, the Minister noted.
Moreover, he challenged Kariyawasam to name the senior ministers who participated in the party's central committee meeting to make this decision.
He added that both President and the Prime Minister, spoke to him about the entire scenario before he attended the media briefing.
