Four girls from Wadduwa Central College have been selected to the SL Women’s Development Squad. The cricketing ‘heroines’ Savindi Cooray, Manohari Nisansala, Emoksha Bhashini and Nethmi Nawodya (Captain) were recently felicitated by the school. The ceremony was organized by the school to honour the four girls with the participation of Apsari Thilakarathne and Raveen Wickramarathne as distinguished guests.

Addressing the felicitation ceremony, Raveen Wickramarathne, Vice President of Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) said: “This is a very happy and important victory, because these girls have now the opportunity of joining the next ‘Emerging Team’, and in the future, will have the opportunity to represent the motherland if they work hard and make sacrifices during their training at the SLC Institute.”

He also said: “Wadduwa Central has the most talented and best Girls Cricket Team in the Kalutara District.”

Commenting on their achievement, Apsari Thilakarathne, Convener of Women’s Cricket, said: “The number of girls who join cricket is very much less, and therefore, this is a very good opportunity for these young girls to go forward in cricket and to get a chance to represent the country; a rare but very easy and quick opportunity.”

President of Kalutara District Association, Prasanna Amarasekara, former Principal of Wadduwa CC, and the current Divisional Education Officer of Panadura, S. Dilan Gunaratnna, and teacher-in-charge of Girls Cricket, Gayathri de Silva, expressed their views about the victorious progress of cricket at Wadduwa Central College.

The services of Dhanushka Ranmuthu (Coach ), Kenneth Dissanayake and Anusha Weeramanthri were also highly appreciated, and they too were felicitated for their dedication to bring the school up to this level.
