Former cop nabbed while trying to sell statue

A former Police officer was taken into  custody on the night of 3 August while attempting to sell a statue of Murugan illegally transported from Trincomalee in Batticaloa.

The arrest was made by officers from the Batticaloa Police Headquarters.

The suspect, a 54-year-old resident of Mullipothana in Trincomalee had been arrested in connection with a swindling case, according to Batticaloa Police sources.

During the preliminary inquiries, the suspect had revealed to Police the gold plated statue of Murugan that was obtained during a treasure hunt and given to him by a friend to be sold and that he had come to Batticaloa for this purpose.
