Former OIC of the Colombo Fort Police Station, Inspector of Police (IP) Niroshan Suriyakumara said that senior officers of the Police had taken steps to interdict him on baseless allegations.

He was testifying before the Presidential Commission of Inquiry probing the bombings on Easter Sunday, 21 April 2019, on 25 June.

Based on a letter from then SDIG Jagath Abeysirigunawardena about the possibility of a second attack which could be carried out by close associates of Easter Sunday attacks mastermind Zahran Hashim, IP Suriyakumara had informed tourist hotels in the Colombo Fort Police Division.

“Claiming that the Police and the public service have been discredited due to what I did, senior officials took steps to interdict me even without the salary,” he added.

IP Suriyakumara added that though nine months had passed since the interdiction, he is yet to receive any charge sheet, adding that a disciplinary inquiry was not yet held. He also stated that the alleged second attack may have been averted because of the actions he took in that connection.
