Food inflation continued to be at the doubledigit level for the third consecutive month last month (September), increasing by 10 per cent year-on-year (YoY), Census and Statistics Department (CSD) data released yesterday (21) showed.

High food inflation was led by an ordinary family’s rice bill increasing by Rs 436.87 YoY, coconut oil bill by Rs 243.42, vegetable bill by Rs 179.97, Mysore dhal bill by Rs 158.73, dried fish bill by Rs 110.87, fresh fish by Rs 101.64 and coconuts by Rs 84.06, respectively. Meanwhile, non-food inflation increased by three per cent YoY last month led by an increase in an ordinary family’s health bill increasing by Rs 144.25, bus fare bill by Rs 138.02 and petrol by Rs 103.27 respectively. Consequently, overall inflation, that is, both food and non-food inflation stayed at the high single digit level for the seventh consecutive month to last month, increasing by 6.2 per cent YoY, in September alone.
