Food distribution programme in the offing – Bandula

Minister of Trade Bandula Gunawardene said that a programme had been formulated to distribute essential items to the public as travel restrictions have been imposed by the Government throughout the country. In a bid to control the spread of the third wave of COVID-19, the Government on the advice from health authorities imposed travel restrictions throughout the country effect from 11 p.m. on 13 May up to 4 a.m. 17 May.
Due to this measure no shops or boutiques will be opened to the public. A meeting chaired by the subject minister was held at Temple Trees yesterday (14) to discuss the distribution programme. One of the decision taken at this meeting had been to keep economic centres and wholesale trading open to facilitate the distribution of food items to the public. Furthermore the SATHOSA and Co-operative Stores will also be kept closed. The distribution programme will be coordinated through the District Secretariats Regional Secretariats.
