Fixed prices for 27 goods to continue
The 27 goods currently being sold at a fixed price will continue to be sold at the same prices in March, announced the Ministry of Trade. It further added that the goods, which were placed under a fixed price system in February, will be available at Lanka Sathosa outlets.
Trade Minister Bandula Gunawardena has requested private supermarkets to join in providing those goods at the fixed price of Lanka Sathosa.
A few of the goods under the fixed price system are a kilograme of wheat flour for Rs 84, a kilograme of dhal for Rs 150, 400 grams of milk powder for Rs 355, and a kilograme of chicken for Rs 400. The Ministry further stated that due to the fixed prices, Lanka Sathosa received a 55 per cent increase in revenue for the month of January.
Schoolchildren will also benefit, as the price of exercise books and a pair of shoes will be reduced, and available for purchase at Lanka Sathosa.
Minister Gunawardena also said under the ‘Mega Sathosa’ project, many outlets will be opened island-wide in the near future. (TF)
