Five contract killers in OCD crosshairs
By Keerthi Mendis
The Organised Crimes Division (OCD) said they are currently keeping close tabs on five gunmen involved in killing people on contract at the behest of underworld figures.
An officer from the OCD said, these five hit men had earlier been arrested by the security forces on similar charges and produced in Court and remanded.
Subsequently the suspects had been released on bail and returned to their trade in the underworld.
The OCD officer said, a further 12 gunmen who carried out contract killings had fled the country and most of them have had security forces training.
He added, a further 11 are currently in remand. He mentioned that most of such criminal acts had declined in the recent past due to the imprisonment of these contract hit men.
The OCD officer also said there was a shortage of illegal drugs in the market. The help of the State Intelligence Service was sought to crack down on these contract killer gangs, he said.
