Final rites of Dr. Danthanarayana performed
The body of Dr. Gayan Danthanarayana, who died while receiving treatment at the Intensive Care Unit of the Karapitiya Teaching Hospital due to COVID-19 complications, was cremated at the Dadalla Crematorium in Galle this evening under health guidelines.
Several close relatives of his family including his wife were present at the Karapitiya Teaching Hospital and they agreed to cremate the body. The body of the doctor was brought to the Dadalla crematorium from the hospital morgue and cremated. He was 32 years old at the time of his death.
Dr. Danthanarayana was admitted to the Mulleriyawa Hospital after testing positive for the virus and later transferred to the Karapitiya Teaching Hospital in Galle on 27 January where he succumbed to the virus this morning.
Assistant Judicial Medical Officer of the Karapitiya Teaching Hospital, Samadhi Dandeniya, who conducted the post mortem, reported that he was also suffering from diabetes and high blood pressure.
Dr. Gayan Dantanarayana is the first doctor in Sri Lanka to die of COVID-19.
