Fake currency notes case : Suspect PNB officers to be produced in Court on 4 Aug

The Criminal Investigations Department (CID) yesterday (30) informed Colombo Chief Magistrate Lanka Jayaratna about the 32 fake currency notes that had been taken into custody from the two Police Narcotic Bureau (PNB) officers who were arrested and charged with maintaining links with big-time illegal drug traffickers.
The CID told Court that 31 fake Rs 5,000 notes had been taken into custody from the possession of the PNB officer W. Lakshan Sameera while a single fake Rs 5,000 note had been taken from PNB officer H.M. Lalith Jayawardena.
The CID urged the Magistrate to issue an order to the Director of the Prisons Department to produce the two PNB officers in Court on 4 August for them to be named as suspects in the case.
They further said that the fake currency notes had been found in a locker at the PNB office and after the two PNB officers are produced in Court, they will send the fake currency notes to the Central Bank for a report.
The Magistrate ordered the Director of the Prisons to produce the two PNB officers before her on 4 August and advised the prosecution to submit a progress report on the case on the same date.
