By Sanduni Gamarachchi
Minister of Trade Bandula Gunawardena has written to the Director General of CIABOC on 15 October to investigate a complaint lodged by the Head of the National Movement for Consumer Rights Protection, Ranjith Vithanage that the subject Minister had received bribes of Rs 2 from the sale of each facemask.
Meanwhile, the Minister alleged that Vithanage had levelled spurious charges against him and informed the Director General of CIABOC to carry out a probe forthwith to get to the bottom of it. Gunawardena added that a well-coordinated plot has been hatched against him to tarnish his image and his reputation in the eyes of the public as he had opposed corruption and fraud taking place in State institutions.
