Local Expulsion from UNP: Ranjan files petition

Former MP and Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) candidate, Ranjan Ramanayake filed a petition at the Colombo District Court on 31 July, seeking an interim injunction order against his expulsion from the United National Party (UNP) without a disciplinary inquiry.

UNP Leader and former Prime Minister, Ranil Wickremesinghe, General Secretary, Akila Viraj Kariyawasam, Deputy Leader, Ravi Karunanayake and several others have been named as respondents in the petitions.

Ramanayake has filed the petition calling for suspension of the expulsion order until the hearing of the petition is completed. He also seeks compensation of Rs 10 million from the UNP for the damages to his reputation as a result of the party’s decision.
