Experts study LP gas cylinder composition
An expert committee is studying the effects in the event of a change in the composition of LP gas cylinders, says Prof. Shantha Walpolage, head of chemical process engineering at the University of Moratuwa.
A report will soon be submitted to the Consumer Affairs Authority that has asked for the study, he says.
As many as 10 separate incidents of explosions involving gas cylinders and stoves were reported yesterday (29) from across the country.
They occurred in Hatton, Malliappuwa, Marawila, Jaffna, Kilinochchi, Hanwella, Padukka, Embilipitiya, Mawanella, and Matara.
Meanwhile, the IGP has directed Western Province SDIG Deshabandu Tennakoon to submit a report within three days on accidents caused by leaks, fires, or explosions in domestic LP gas cylinders across the country.
In the event of a gas mishap in any location, the OIC of the area’s police should notify the relevant gas company as well as the officer in charge of the relevant division.
Litro Gas and Laugfs Gas representatives have also been appointed to assist the police inquiry.
