Former Chief of National Intelligence (CNI) Sisira Mendis on 15 September said, he received a call from the former Director of the State Intelligence Service (SIS), SDIG Nilantha Jayawardena on 20 April 2019 regarding reliable Intelligence from a foreign counterpart on an imminent coordinated terror attack, but SDIG Jayawardena had disconnected the call in the middle of the conversation without providing further details and had never contacted him again.
Testifying before the Presidential Commission of Inquiry (PCoI) probing the 21 April 2019 Easter Sunday terror attacks, Mendis said: "I got the call from SDIG Jayawardena while I was preparing to attend the Easter vigil mass. He said the foreign Intelligence he received was an issue. I told him, in that case, the IGP has to take necessary action. But SDIG Jayawardena suddenly disconnected the call and never contacted me again.
“Furthermore, SDIG Jayawardena contacted me on 19 April 2019 after the motorcycle bomb blast in Kathankudy, but he did not tell me that National Thowheed Jama’ath Leader Zaharan Hashim's group was behind that,” he claimed.
