Chairman of the Presidential Commission of Inquiry on Political Victimisation, former Supreme Court Judge Upali Abeyratne, said it has been observed that former IGP N.K. Illangakoon, who was named a respondent in the complaint lodged with the Commission by Minister Udaya Gammanpila, is ignoring notices issued by the Commission and as a result, it has been decided to name him as a person who is avoiding the Commission.
In relation to the complaint lodged by Minister Udaya Gammanpila with the above-mentioned Commission, former Minister Patali Champika Ranawaka, former Inspectors General of Police Pujith Jayasundera and N.K. Ilangakoon, together with a group of others, have been named as respondents and when obtaining of evidence was taken up on Saturday (24), the Chairman of the Commission made the above statement.
Making a complaint to this Commission, Minister Gammanpila had stated that in the year 2015, a false complaint had been filed at the Colombo High Court by the past Government of Good Governance, through a false Warrant of Attorney that he had defrauded an Australian citizen named Brian John Shaddick by selling shares belonging to that individual.
