Essential items to be sold at fixed prices

Minister of Trade Bandula Gunawardena states that several essential items will be sold at fixed prices from next week. He stated this at a media briefing held at the Ministry of Commerce today (11).
Accordingly, imported onions will be sold at Rs. 75, imported potatoes at Rs. 130, 1 kg of rice (kekulu) at Rs. 93, and 1kg of rice (Nadu) at Rs. 96.
The Minister further stated that the Ministry expects to introduce soya oil as a replacement for coconut oil, which can reduce the cost of importation of coconut oil. The Ministry will accordingly come into an agreement with the soya producers in order to sell their products at a profitable yet concessionary rate.
The Ministry also expects to provide soap at a concessionary rate in cooperation with the BCC (British Ceylon Corporation) to the market.
