It is the responsibility of the Government, parents, teachers and all members of society to ensure that children receive the right education in a timely manner and steps are taken to provide this assistance, said State Minister of Women and Child Development, Preschools and Primary Education, School Infrastructure and Education Services, Piyal Nishantha de Silva.
He was speaking at a Media briefing held at the Ministry auditorium. The State Minister further said the views of trade unionists involved in education as well as the views of the experts will be taken into consideration and procedures will be formulated, thereby creating the environment to educate children and ensure adherence to health regulations.
“The global pandemic is likely to have a devastating effect on the mental health of children. Therefore, children are more likely to be subjected to various forms of abuse and therefore society should take steps to free children from this,” he said, adding that everyone should work for the welfare of children.
He further said parents, teachers, and politicians should be committed, instead of expecting the Government alone to protect children.
