Draft laws to ban Lyla-seine net fishing – Devananda

Fisheries Minister Douglas Devananda on Monday (1) directed officials to take necessary action to draft laws pertaining to the banning of Lyla-seine net fishing which is harmful to the industry.
The meeting took place at the Ministry auditorium in Colombo. He also directed officials to draft required rules and regulations pertaining to the harvesting and export of crabs, especially blue crabs in particular as certain complications have arisen ‘the way things are currently done’ in this regard, the Ministry said.
Associated at the meeting were State Minister Kanchana Wijesekera, Ministry Secretary Indu Ratnayake, State Ministry Secretary Jayantha Chandrasoma and Fisheries Director General Susantha Kahawatte.
