Deputy Director General Disaster Management and Emergency Response (DMER), Dr. Hemantha Herath urged those between 20 to 29 years and those above 30 to come for their COVID-19 jabs as soon as possible, as the Health Ministry may have to limit its vaccination programme. Dr. Herath when contacted said on Tuesday (21) the current programme may have to be limited, as the State Health Service has started administering the coronavirus vaccine to schoolchildren. “Also, we may have to start administering a third dose as a booster or an additional dose to those with immune deficiencies etc.
in the future so much so that we would not have time to mollycoddle the youth and those above 30,” he said. Therefore, these two age groups to which the vaccine is being offered should not delay further, waiting for the best vaccine, or be dissuaded from getting the COVID jab because of some myth that was told to them. They should not spend their time waiting for a better vaccine than the ones that are currently being offered, but go to the nearest vaccination centre and obtain the COVID jab, he instructed.
