Fisheries Minister Douglas Devananda said the COVID-19 vaccination programme should be extended to Jaffna, Mullaitivu, Kilinochchi, Vavuniya and Mannar Districts in the Northern Province. Devananda added that he raised this matter during the District Development Coordination and Monitoring Committee Meeting chaired by President Gotabaya Rajapaksa, recently.
He said 50,000 individuals in the Jaffna District have been vaccinated with COVID-19 jabs on priority basis and added that at least 150,000 vaccines must be sent to Jaffna District. Minister Devananda said he requested the President to send 100,000 COVID-19 vaccines to Vavuniya District and 50,000 vaccines to Kilinochchi, Mannar and Mullaitivu Districts each. The Minister said the President accepted his request and had told him that vaccines will be sent soon to Jaffna District
