Home Doing It Your Way

Maybe you’ve finally got the dream home you’ve always wanted (congratulations!), or you feel that the home you live in needs a makeover, one of the first things that might pop into your mind is the furniture being used. Finding the right furniture with the perfect design that you’ve always envisioned can be a tedious task. Of course, there are custom furniture makers, but finding one that is reliable and known for quality and high standards is not easy.

Recognising this as an opportunity, Madison Avenue has quickly grown its online presence as a furniture store, especially during the ongoing pandemic season, proving that it only takes a good idea, some creativity, and your passion for anyone to build a successful online enterprise.

Ceylon Today reached out to Nuzla Mohideen, the founder and owner of Madison Avenue to learn more about their journey. Preferring to retain her privacy, Nuzla preferred to remain away from the spotlight, wanting to highlight Madison Avenue, her brainchild to have the spotlight.

A creative spirit

Having a moment to speak with her husband, we learned that Nuzla, “always had a light in her that shone wherever she went.” A tutor in mathematics and science for Ordinary Level students, Nuzla has always been a person with a creative spirit and is someone passionate about design.

“I’ve visited many places over the years and have come across many kinds of people with their fornique sense of style,” she shared. “Getting to meet them and seeing how they express themselves through the interiors of their homes inspired me to start creating my own designs in furniture.”

“For me, staying true to my style and creating the indoor space of my home to reflect my taste is something I feel to be extremely important,” Nuzla shared.

Of course, this translated into Nuzla designing furniture for her own home. But it wasn’t long before the idea to start Madison Avenue began to develop.

“It was my husband who encouraged me to start Madison Avenue,” she revealed. “With my husband’s encouragement and his support, I’m really excited about how far we’ve come in such a short time.”

Going online

Madison Avenue operates as a fully online business where potential clients can connect with them over social media platforms such as Instagram. By doing so, not only was Nuzla able to connect with a larger audience, increasing her sales, she was also able to operate her entire enterprise without the need of a physical showroom.

“It has definitely been one of the best decisions we made,” shared Nuzla’s husband.

We learnt that neither of them expected Madison Avenue to grow as fast. But are pleasantly surprised with how well the brand has progressed.

Doing it your way

When creating your dream home interior, having the right choice of furniture can be a struggle. This is especially true for those looking to craft a unique interior for themselves.

Realising this, Madison Avenue not only offers their own designs, but also accepts custom orders brought by their clients.

Being able to create custom-designed furniture, built to the highest standards and requirements possible and deliver to the customer is one of the highlights behind Madison Avenue’s demand.

Continuing forward

“I never thought we would come this far with Madison Avenue this quickly,” the two shared while speaking with us. “We’re grateful for everyone who trusted Madison Avenue to deliver exactly as promised. We especially have to thank Rifaath Rifky. He has been of invaluable assistance to our journey.”

Nuzla aims to continue growing the Madison Avenue brand, furthering her enterprise while pursuing her passion in design. Her next aim is to have her own showroom to welcome clients and guests as well as showcase her designs in a physical space.
