A resident of Gampaha staged a protest over the weekend atop a cellular tower, demanding for his wife to be repatriated from Jordan.
His 24-year-old wife has been in Jordan since 2019, unable to return due to the prevailing COVID-19 pandemic.
The man claimed that when he contacted the relevant authorities regarding his plight, he was, in turn, asked for Rs. 400,000 if he wished for his wife to be repatriated.
The individual, a dockworker, later climbed down the tower, agreeing to discuss the matter with the current Minister of Tourism, Prasanna Ranatunga.
