Distribution of new beds underway

The distribution of beds, for COVID-19 patients, to hospitals and treatment centres, on Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa’s instructions, is underway. Five hundred beds, for this purpose, are to be made by the State Engineering Corporation and the Government Factory Department at the cost of Rs 20,000 to Rs 23,000 per bed and a at total cost over Rs 11 million for the 500 beds. 

While the SEC has completed 60 beds, the Government Factory Department has completed 100, out of which 50 beds were donated to the Mulleriawa Government Hospital and the remaining 50 beds were donated to the Nawagamuwa Hospital. Fifty beds completed by the SEC were donated to the Kosgama Hospital and the remaining 10 beds to the Polgasowita Wethara hospital. The Ministry of Urban Development and Housing stated that all these beds will be made in adherence to instructions of the health authorities, adding that the donation could be completed over the following weeks.
