Discussions underway to purchase Pfizer, Johnson & Johnson & Moderna: Health Minister
The Minister of Health, Pavithra Wanniarachchi said that discussions have already been initiated with the U.S. Embassy to purchase stocks of the Johnson & Johnson and Moderna vaccines.
Meanwhile, discussions are underway to purchase 7 million doses of the Pfizer vaccine as well, she added.
The Minister said this responding to a question directed by the Leader of the Opposition Sajith Premadasa at the Parliament today (08).
Moreover, she added that the vaccination drive for the second dose of COVISHIELD-AstraZeneca vaccine will be held from 23 April.
The Health Minister mentiond that the National Medicines Regulatory Commission has so far received documents for the approval of AstraZeneca vaccine produced by the Serum Institute in India, COVAXIN produced by the Bharath Biotech Institute in India, Chinese-manufactured Sinopharm vaccine and the Sputnik V vaccine manufactured by the Gamaleya Research Institute in Russia.
