Sports Dimo Southern Warriors emerge champs

 Leader of the points table Dimo Southern Warriors emerged champions of the inaugural Army Commander’s T20 League tournament conducted by Sri Lanka Army Cricket Committee, when they beat Super Fashion Northern Warriors by 9 runs in the final in Dombagoda on Saturday.

Skipper Dinesh Chandimal won the toss and batting first Southern Warriors scored 159 runs for 6 wickets in 20 overs. Middle order bat Asantha Basnayake scored 47 runs in 40 balls (2x4; 2x6). Asantha and Gihan Koralage (24) put on 53 runs for the third, and 55 runs for the fifth wicket with Wanindu Hasaranga (29).  

Wanindu Hasaranga(29), Gihan Koralage (24), Dinesh Chandimal (19) and Priyantha Rathnayake (18) made useful contributions.  

Heshan Hettiarachchi took 2/46, while Seekkuge Prasanna, Dasun Shanaka and Tharindu Kaushal captured one wicket each.

Northern Warriors were bowled out for 150 runs in 19 overs. Skipper Seekkuge Prasanna scored 49 runs in 23 deliveries (3x4; 5x6) and Dasun Shanaka scored 34 runs in 32 deliveries (2x4; 1x6). Ashan Randika (22) and Janaka Sampath (17) helped to build their inning. 

Suminda Lakshan took 3 wickets, while Malinda Abhishek, Wanindu Hasaranga and Suranga Lakmal took 2 wickets each.

Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva, Chief of Defence Staff and the Commander of the Army, Shammi Silva, President of Sri Lanka Cricket, Major General Jagath Gunawardena, Chief of Staff of the Sri Lanka Army and Colonel Commandant, Corps of Sri Lanka Engineers and Chairman Army Sports Committee, Major General Duminda Sirinaga, Deputy Chief of Staff of the Sri Lanka Army and Colonel Commandant, Corps of Sri Lanka Electrical And Mechanical Engineers, Major General Ruwan Wanigasooriya, Commandant Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force and Chairman of Sri Lanka Army Cricket Committee, Brigadier Shiran Abeysekara, Director Rehabilitation SL Army and Vice President of Army Cricket Committee and several other officials witnessed the final.

Special Awards

Rethnaraja Thenutharan (Prima Stella Eastern Warriors) who took four catches and was instrumental for seven dismissals, was adjudicated Best Fielder of the tournament.

Major Thisara Perera, skipper of Melbn Western Warriors, who claimed 12 wickets for 125 runs in six matches, was adjudicated Best Bowler of the Tournament. 

Major Dinesh Chandimal, skipper of Dimo Southern Warriors, who scored 288 runs with three half centuries in seven innings, was adjudicated Best Batsman of the tournament.

Suminda Lakshan, right arm off break bowler of Dimo Southern Warriors, who took 3/22, was adjudicated Man of the Final.

Warrant Officer I Seekkuge Prasanna, skipper of Super Fashion Northern Warriors, who scored 176 runs with a half century in seven innings, was adjudicated Player of the Tournament.
