Digitalization of SL’s television broadcasting begins today
The official launch of a project for the digitalization of television broadcasting in Sri Lanka takes place this evening (28).
The project will ensure viewers with a clearer reception by way of a removal of signal vulnerabilities.
It has been planned and will be implemented by the Mass Media Ministry with Japanese financial and technical assistance.
With the initialization of the project, the analog signal broadcasting system will be converted into digital format.
Removal of multiple television antennae and the ability to capture all TV channels with one antenna is another feature of digitization.
With the digitization, the capacity of the frequency spectrum in Sri Lanka will increase exponentially, said the Ministry.
The country’s first digital terrestrial television broadcast will begin in 2023 and the project is scheduled to be completed by 2025.
